Overview

The City of El Paso is bringing together local businesses, non-profits, and academic partners for a series of three climate summits. These summits aim to foster collaboration, identify shared priorities, and shape practical climate actions. They will also provide a space for partners to communicate resource needs and explore opportunities to support effective implementation of the Climate Action Plan.

Summit #3

On August 13, 2025, the City of El Paso hosted the third and final Climate Action Plan Summit at the Chamizal Recreation Center. The event brought together over 55 participants from across sectors, including academia, nonprofit organizations, businesses, community representatives, elected leaders, regional organizations, and local government staff. This engagement built on the City’s three-part outreach effort, bringing partners to the table to drive implementation and shape a CAP that reflects diverse priorities. The primary goal of Summit 3 was to officially launch the draft Climate Action Plan for public review and request stakeholders’ feedback on its content and direction.

Summit #2

On May 7th 2025, the City of El Paso hosted its second climate summit, bringing together over 65 partners. The summit featured an overview of the draft goals for the Climate Action Plan, including levels of public support and case studies from regional climate efforts. Participants then joined a five-hour focus group-style work session, where table discussions explored opportunities to implement proposed actions. Conversations focused on workforce needs and the potential benefits of climate action for vulnerable communities.

Summit #1

On February 26, 2025, over 80 community leaders, academia, business owners, nonprofit organizations, and community representatives gathered at the El Paso Zoo for a Climate Action Plan Summit aimed at advancing and understanding local sustainability efforts. Attendees shared their ongoing initiatives, interests, and challenges in implementing green practices while highlighting successful environmental programs within their organizations. The project team presented a project overview detailing the current state of El Paso’s climate action plan efforts, followed by a Q&A session that encouraged open dialogue. Participants provided valuable input on barriers and opportunities, offering insights on how proposed draft measures could be effectively integrated into their respective sectors to strengthen the Climate Action Plan.
